OMG VINTAGE!! It’s true! I started a lil’ vintage shop all up on here! It was something I have been working on for awhile as a fun side project but I was trying to figure out whether to use etsy, ebay, or just sell them out of my trunk, but I decided to try out big cartel instead. Anyhoo, you guys know how much I love me some vintage. I feel like we should all wear more of it and I want to help spread its gloriousness. There are tons of vintage stores online but a lot of them are ridiculously overpriced to which I say F U. Everything will always be priced below $25 on Gold Hearted Snakes.

(Sidenote, for my next video I’m just going to say OMG VINTAGE over and over so you can actually hear how I say it in my head every time I write it. We have to do these things to make our relationship stronger you know.)

The other day Netflix finally sent me Switchblade Sisters (aka The Jezebels), an exploitation movie from 1975 that Reyna has been telling me to watch for months. It’s about all-girl gang, the Dagger Debs, who terrorize anyone that gets in the way of them and their male counterparts, The Silver Daggers.

The Daggers Debs are led by Lace, which was an interesting casting choice in Robbie Lee, because her squeaky,Frenchie-from-Grease-voice usually makes for a quirky sidekick and not a feared gang leader. The actress unsurprisingly went on to do voice work for Rainbow Brite cartoons. She still be a scurry BADASS BROAD though.

The gang gets into a brawl with new-girl-on-turf Maggie, who ends up being a badass chola of her own and knocks Lace’s right hand woman ‘Patch’ on her booty with some sort of chic lasso whip. Lace sees this and develops a girlcrush on Maggie so she brings her into the gang and the two start a beautiful homance. But love makes people do crazy things, and even a strong independent gang leader like Lace can get insecure when a new hottie starts hanging around. Soon after welcoming Maggie as a fellow sista, Lace becomes suspicious of Maggie’s intentions with her papi chulo Dominique, leader of the Silver Daggers.

As you and I both know, cholitas are some of the most hopeless romantic people out there, so who can blame Lace for acting like a paranoid cray? And Maggie was actually a down ass ruca and didn’t try to take Lace’s mang. Dominique was the double-timing dique! Lots of cray things start to happen but I won’t spoil it for you so you can watch for yourself.

SO NOW.. let’s talk about these homegirls’ STYLE.

All black everything. Denim and leather. Giant belts, Daisy Dukes and thigh high boots. Decorated motorcycle jackets, skinny black pants tucked into stompers, satin bomber jackets which is an item that I have wanted in my closet for many years… I remember Betsey Johnson made one a few years ago that I still think about but never had! I will totally settle for one that has 1985 map of the Philippines on the back though.

Doesn’t this scene look like the one in The Runaways where Dakota was bleeding down her leg? I need a screencap to compare!

Trying to figure out what is wrapped around Lace’s Princess Leia hairmuffs here. BTW this movie totally came out before Star Wars.

Now Patch is the JEALOUZ instigator of the crew and is the one who starts drama when Maggie comes along. She lost her eye for the gang and sports a butterfly eyepatch. Since Switchblade Sisters is one of Tarantino’s fave movies, he was obviously influenced by Patch for Daryl Hannah’s character in Kill Bill. I remember my mom had some of these quinceañera wicker chairs when I was a kid and one day I got so mad I flipped all of them over. BABY HULK!

Later on the gang pulls a name change and becomes THE JEZEBELS.

Other favorite scenes of mine include a crazy brawl in a juvenile detention center and a roller rink shootout! If you had a girl gang what would you call it? Mine would be called The Fringed Femmes and we’d all have black hair and bangs of course!!

What happens when my favorite style aesthetic becomes the popular go-to theme for everything? Only one of my eyes roll. (IMAGINE) Can’t hate on this though! Smart collabo. So badass. So gorgeous. Witchy witchy witchy.

(BTW, Mr. Anger is EIGHTY-THREE YEARS OLD!! Lemme kick and stretch. Doin’ these thangs at EIGHTY-THREE! We might as well all GO TO SLEEP)

Is that me in a corn field in the middle of the desert or is this a MIRAGE??!!

I could have titled the final installment of my Palm Springs Diaries: Only WE Would Go To A Zoo In The Desert, but I thought The Day I Almost Fainted would have more of a dramatic effect and a juicy plot. Emi and I thought it would be fun to go to The Living Desert, which is a zoo in nearby Indian Wells aka Indian Hell because it ended up being TOO HOT EVEN FOR ME (Cleopatra.) I still have yet to experience a real SoCal summer this year due to this weird ass January weather. Didn’t I complain about this thirty times already? (Sidebar as I type this, I am looking outside at the whiteout DRIZZLIN’ sky. Where am I, Seattle? HATECHU!) Anyway, I was all the more ready to “embrace the heat”…until I had a case of the dizzies in this DESERT JUNGLE and was afraid I was going to face plant into a cactus. Thank gawt I didn’t otherwise poor Emi would have to “Weekend at Bernie’s” me outta there.

This dress is from Charlotte Ronson’s collection for JC Penney. You know how I have loved me some Penney’s in the past. This dress is so pink and playful. It’s like Saved by the Bell, Kelly Kapowski print on the top with a pink and white floral skirt (my fave.)

I’ve passed by this cute elephant sign many times on the way to Coachella and finally got to take a picture!

I should note that we ate at the original Native Foods twice while we were in Palm Springs. It’s this amazing vegan restaurant that has a few locations in Southern California. There is only one in LA for now but hopefully that will change soon. We even met the founder, Chef Tanya!

When we left beautiful Palm Springs we stopped to see the Cabazon Dinosaurs as per tradition. The Cabazon dinos were made way back in 1975 as a way to attract attention to the nearby cafe. But in the 90′s, the property was turned into a Creationist musuem, making poor Dinny and Mr. Rex (the dinosaurs) accessories to some religious propaganda.

But to Rie-Rie, this place will ALWAYS remind her of the glorious Fred Savage movie, The Wizard. “Califooornia!”

The wind was blowing so hard, even my bangs were no match against it. Imagine if I had a bangs helmet for these types of situations?

The room we had at the Ace was perfect for two ladies who came to Palm Springs primarily to LOUNGE. It reminded me of camp. We called it The Clubhouse.

This was our comfy girly area to read mags, talk shit, watch tv and CHILL OUT. I’m telling you it was a REAL vacation where I didn’t have to do nuthin’!! BLISS.

One of the best things about the rooms at the Ace is they have these hooks where you can hang random things and clip your photos on. I forgot to bring picture of Sir Staymoist to hang! BLASPHEMY! I did bring one of Emi’s weird crush though. Not sure if she wants me to divulge who tickles her ladyboner but his name rhymes with Dickey Bjork. SAWRE EMI. You can spot our matching fruit bags (made by Emi) and (a part of) her extensive headband collection.

11 pairs of shoes between the both of us…for basically 48 hours. Ridiculous to some, but POLLY HEAVEN to those who are in the know.

Dress Obsessed!

When we unpacked it looked like we were setting up shop so we started taking snapshots like two nerds with nothing better to do (until we started tanning.) Emi shares my love of accessories so I never feel like a whore-der around her. THANK GAWT I AM NOT ALONE! Also thank heavens for this Joan Collins (sister of our fairy godmother Jackie of course) book I brought to be our bible for the trip.

We got our nails did nearby where I also discovered my new favorite polish…”VIKINI GREEN.” What the hales is a vikini? I hope it’s some sort of inside joke among the alchemists who mixed this magical nail potion. UGH I LOVE IT

There’s a whole lotta Jeffrey Campbell on my lust list lately due to the fact that every kind of shoe I desperately need (want? crave!) right now can be found easily via the enormous JC line. Being a red shoe addict, the ones on the top tier naturally caught my eye first, followed by an assortment of summer wedges in simple black and funky floral patterns. There’s also a cute heart-studded flat which give an everyday work shoe the perfect lil’ extra sumthin’ sumthin’ for Rie-Rie. Lastly to my delight, J-Camps has a few white wedges that are contenders to be my “Cray Nurse Shoe” which is something I have been in search of for well over a year. Jeffrey Campbell you make it HURT SO GOOD!!!
