Sweet Valley Giveaway

sweet valley high

OMG SWEET VALLEY IS BACK!!! The other day I asked on Twitter and Facebook if anyone read Sweet Valley High back in the day and many of you expressed your love for goody two-shoes Elizabeth and her cray twin sis Jessica. The series, along with spinoffs such as Sweet Valley Twins and The Unicorn Club was a favorite for those of us who graduated from reading The Babysitters Club and wanted something a little more scandalous for our junior high eyes.

Sweet Valley fever is back in full effect first with Diablo Cody adapting the series into a film and now with the new novel Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later by the lady behind it all, Francine Pascal. The twins are now in their late twenties (LIKE MANY OF US) and in the first chapter there is already some escandalo brewin’ and some Beyonce and Justin Timberlake (delishis) references.

Ooh, exciting! I think I’m getting some of that Sweet Valley fever! This makes me wanna read them all again!

OMG remember the Sweet Valley High book that told how the twin’s parents met? Like how they kept being torn apart through the generations until finally meeting up and having the twins and their brother? That was my FAVE book, but I can’t find the title and Wiki wasn’t helpful. I CANNOT wait for the movie.

OMGZ! My older sister had every. single. book. and the beezy would never let me read them! So I had to sneak them when she was out of the house. After all that, the hooker didn’t even keep them! She gave them away last year. I cried many tears!

I love SVH about as much as I love those freestyle mixes! SHOOT.

I’ve been loving and stalking your blog for quite some time now but only the power of the size six Wakefield twins could make me come out into the open and wave my geek flag! Obsessed doesn’t even begin to describe my love for all things Sweet Valley. How bad was my jones to be Lila Fowler?

Behold the top 5 reasons why I am the greatest Sweet Valley STAN:
5. When Hurricane Hugo hit SC back when I was in high school, I was given 10 minutes to grab essentials. I took my box of Sweet Valley High books (along with some fingerless lace gloves and my signed Betty White picture, natch)
4. I once had to Todd punch a guy in college and referred to it as such
3. From the age of 8 on, every third Friday of every month was not spent getting my party on with friends but at the bookstore waiting to get the newest book in my hot Little hands.
2. I stayed with these bitches all the way through the college series which sucked balls after book 9.
1. My name is Elizabeth and yes, she was the better twin

If you show me some love, I promise to wear the shirts with my lavaliere whilst attempting to secure a red spider fiat to cruise around in.

remember when they got to university or something and they all started having sex? i remember laughing like mad because the way it was written was soooo cheezzzzy!

I love Sweet Valley. You have no idea! I was too young for them, so I used to sneak them (though I don’t remember how). I really liked the Sweet Valley University ones for some reason. I read those in middle school…

I am a lot younger than most SVH fans. I’m 18, started with Sweet Valley Twins and worked my way up lol.

I was so obssessed with this series when I was in elementary school that one time I took out a bunch of the ones from the library that I didn’t have and I “LOST” them. I HAD TO HAVE THEM ALL!

9 Emma { 07.26.10 at 3:10 pm }

OMG! These books! I read my older cousin’s books when I was still a bit younger and they were soooo deliciously cheesy. I am SO READY for the new book!

10 megan { 07.26.10 at 4:23 pm }

Ahaha, we used to have the board game! My sister and I used to play it together. Though, I don’t think either of us have actually read the books, unless I’m forgetting. I don’t know how or why we got it–maybe it was at a garage sale or something and my mom got it in part because she had read the books when she was a teenager…

11 Kara { 07.26.10 at 5:26 pm }

OMIGOSH! Totally remember reading these when I was younger. I really want to play that board game… I think Australia must’ve missed some of the SVH pandemonium because I don’t remember any of my friends having that either. BUT WOW! Can’t believe there’s going to be a new book, that’s awesome! :D

12 TheShoeGirl { 07.26.10 at 5:33 pm }

OH EMM GEEEEEEEzie! AHHH! I’m having total SVH flashbacks.
I totally had the board game though I remember making up my own game with it. The point of it was to go around the board and get all the stuff you needed for your date. I remember taking the Jessica and Lila game pieces and having them make fun of dorky Liz and Enid.
Lila had the cutest green dress that her and Jessica would fight over (in my mind of course) and the cutest blonde BF, Ken. Plus she was rich and bitchy and a total asshole and boy did I want to be just like her. LOL. I played the crap out of that game whenever a friend would come over, and played the made up game when I was alone.
ALSO! I made my mom buy me 2 of the same Barbies so I could have the Wakefield twins in my Barbie arsenal. haha.
This is so great! I can’t wait for the new book and now I have to dig up the old ones!! I’m feeling the SVH fever all over again! AHHHHH!!
LOVE this post!!

13 Jassy { 07.26.10 at 6:40 pm }

You know what, I always thought Mr. Wakefield sounded seriously hot, you can keep Todd Wilkins, tell me more about Mr. Wakefield!!

14 Jassy { 07.26.10 at 6:42 pm }

Also, team Elizabeth. Jessica was totally skeevy and everyone knew it.

15 sparkle { 07.26.10 at 6:43 pm }

Love..love..I even had the books on tape..cassettes..lol and they were cheesy awesome..I’m pooing my pants over this! Yay thx girly!

16 Rowanna Ellis { 07.27.10 at 1:19 am }

I can’t believe they’re back! I used to drive my mom crazy insiting I had to wear something purple EVERY SINGLE DAY, beacuse I’m as special and unique as a unicorn, of course. I’m not sure which book I love best. The one where Liz falls in love with a pop star? Or the sixties party… oooh, dear sister, that one was great! By the way, TEAM JESSICA!!!! (If only for her awesome style, purple striped nails anyone?)

17 Vixel { 07.27.10 at 6:49 am }

Oh wow, that’s a seriously awesome giveaway! I didn’t realise there was a new book coming out!

18 caitlin { 07.27.10 at 7:14 am }

I loved Sweet Valley High. I read all the books. I am to this day convinced that a size 6 is the perfect size.

19 Charley { 07.27.10 at 8:06 am }

Amazing, I was totes obsessed. I remember having to pawn half my collection one time in a used bookstore just to get my hands on the latest and sobbing. Haha!

20 Betsey { 07.27.10 at 12:19 pm }

I just have to say that Power Play was the freaking jam on my reading list. That was some drama!

21 Mace Elaine { 07.27.10 at 2:22 pm }

Oh crap, mang. You have no idea how excited I am about this. I’ve been loving the recaps of the books on Sweet Valley Diaries (http://www.sweetvalleydiaries.com/Sweet_Valley_Diaries/Blog/Blog.html) It takes me back to a simpler time, back when I would read an entire book on a beautiful summer day.

TEAM ELIZABETH.

22 Diana { 07.27.10 at 2:45 pm }

After getting sick of Babysitters Club and growing up, I wanted some carnal drama, and I turned to Sweet Valley. The books did not disappoint! Can’t wait for the new one!

23 Tarver { 07.27.10 at 2:51 pm }

Best giveaway ever! I used to have to go over to my babysitters house when I was like 10, and she was about 20, so she had ALL the sweet valley books and I would sit in her room and read like 2 a day! They were great! My mom even told me I wasn’t allowed to read them, they were “too mature”, but did I listen?! No way!

LOVE THIS!

24 Annie Cristina { 07.27.10 at 2:51 pm }

Sweet Valley High was THE thing in middle school. I still remember my favorite book — the one where Jessica dyed her hair black and started acting all “sophisticated,” until Elizabeth smacked the sense back into her (as per usual).

25 jamie { 07.27.10 at 2:53 pm }

YAY!!! This totally just made my day!!! I read every single one of the books and couldn’t wait for the next one to come out!!!! I also had the game and looooved playing with my younger cousin and friends. I was always Elizabeth. Awesome memories!!! Best giveaway ever!!!

26 Layne { 07.27.10 at 3:14 pm }

OMG THAT GAME! That was my favorite for the longest. And I borrowed those books by the dozen from the library. Whoa flashback! Totally stoked for the Diablo Cody movie.

27 Sarahkate { 07.27.10 at 3:27 pm }

Oh the 80s. I’ve got the game somewhere in storage.

Team Elizabeth all the way.

28 Dianne { 07.27.10 at 5:22 pm }

Sweet Valley Twins was seriously the first full pre-teen novel that I read. I followed the series religiously and read all the spin offs from Sweet Valley High to The Unicorn Club! I even watched all of the TV series! Ahhh, so much nostalgia!

29 Kristie { 07.28.10 at 4:35 am }

This is an amazing giveaway! I absolutely loved these books and still have some of mine. I am forever in love with the 80s. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

30 Allison { 07.28.10 at 7:43 am }

Team Todd (Elizabeth’s boyfriend)! He looked so dreamy on the cover of Elizabeth’s First Kiss!

31 Liz { 07.28.10 at 4:11 pm }

OMG…I am BEYOND excited for this book to come out! Every week, I would spend my allowence buying SVH books…I’ll never forget it, they were only $2.25 a piece back then (damn I’m old! lol) and would usually finish them by the end of the weekend! Love, love love them! I feel like I grew up with the twins, so it will be so great to be reunited with them now!

32 Rachelia { 07.28.10 at 9:56 pm }

I used to LOVE this series! I remember picking them up at the library – I liked the thrillers/chillers and the Christmas story with the nutcracker on the front? I still have a torn up copy of it. Ahh, the good old days! I even had the boardgame pictured. However, I don’t like the newer books as much, but I’m still going to check out 10 Years Later! I’d love to win a Team Elizabeth shirt (Jessica always seemed to snooty and self-centered for my taste… kind of like my sister, and I’m more like Elizabeth anyways!). Thanks for the reminiscing :)

33 Jaci { 07.29.10 at 11:48 pm }

I used to read any of the books I can get my hands on, mostly through the school library. They were always checked out so it was like a real hot commodity if you were able to get one. My favorites ever were this trilogy I think it was of Sweet Valley High books where the twins had some sort of horror adventure at a vacation spot on the beach somewhere. I remember something being involved with some creepy necklace. I need to find that book and read it again.

34 Camilla { 07.30.10 at 9:44 am }

Hahaha

My absoulte favorite was the books about their famely history, one from the granddma side and one from the grampa side. I loved the history and the fact that their greate greate greate grandma was swedish :)

I will read the 10 years later book, i actually think it is a fun thing to do from the author

35 Deb { 07.30.10 at 3:09 pm }

I totally had the SVH game – and I made my brothers play it with me! I loved the Regina Morrow storyline and the one with the chubby girl running around the track….

36 Robin Lynn { 07.30.10 at 3:12 pm }

What a great giveaway!!!!!!!! I am Team Elizabeth all the way…even more after reading Chapter 1! So excited! I totally grew up on the Sweet Valley books – from Sweet Valley Twins to SV High, to SVU! And now we’re the same age! I love it!

37 Niki { 07.30.10 at 4:42 pm }

I started with the Sweet Valley Twins in grade school, then graduated to SVH, the game and the Sagas. Tried SVU, but didn’t like it much. I do remember the short-lived TV show! I still read my Twins books and have been reading the updated SVH, so this new series is prefect to me! Now that I’m, ahem, 30, I’m excited the twins are grown up, too! And I have grown up to totally be Elizabeth…just that I haven’t made it to NYC yet!

38 Joella { 07.30.10 at 5:02 pm }

i love svh it was a way to feel something different wish i lived in that world, i was like liz but love jess and lila, and i will be like liz and make it to nyc once day to work in the publishing world

39 Amanda { 07.30.10 at 5:38 pm }

I love SVH! I grew up with Elizabeth and Jessica, from Kids to University. I wanted to live in Sweet Valley so bad, even with the high crazy things happening rate. I would risk getting killed to further the character development of the Wakefields and/or Lila if it meant I got to hang out with them for at least 3 books. I was a weird child, yes, I’m aware.

40 Angela Hightower { 07.30.10 at 9:39 pm }

I’m am so EXCITED!!! Sweet Valley High, and indeed all of the Sweet Valley books were my favorite books between the ages of 12-16. I babysat and bought them with the money I earned. I still have over 100 of them; some of which are not part of my classroom library. I am more of an Elizabeth than Jessica, and even have a niece named after my favorite twin.

41 Rebecca { 07.31.10 at 7:46 am }

Words cannot express my love for Sweet Valley. I inherited the first 20 or so from an older cousin at age 10 and was hooked! Everything I thought I knew about high school life came straight from the world of the Wakefields. To this day, I’m still searching for a boyfriend like Todd Wilkins!
